Message I have never seen a hydrolocked motor in New Zealand though, must be that heavy ass american rain you guys have. hehehe :)

Seriously the exact system has been on my bus partners car (daily driven, never had a splash guard on it in 5+ years) and a friends car for a number of years without problems, I guess if you're stupid enough to be going WOT in seriously heavy rain through puddles then yeah it will be a problem.

Even the stock air box has vents that "encourage" water to be dumped directly into the intake plenum... **apparently** if you drive through large puddles at medium speeds a lot of water can splash up into those inlet pipes that come at 90 degrees to the air box and dump water into the air box. Again, never seen it happen so can't comment. Although I can see how it happens nearly did it myself.. (with a splashguard/jwt filter) hit a puddle on a side of the road and immediatley lifted off, which was a good thing as a TONNE of water went left, forward and everywhere from the left front wheel of the car.. guess if I had my foot in it at that stage then I could've kissed good bye to the motor... but you've got to be mental going WOT in those conditions..

Regardless this is the kind of product that is destined for a serious HP Z that shouldn't be driven in heavy rain anyway! Any modification from standard spec is inviting trouble so as always "for competition use only" warnings apply.

Thanks for reminding others though..

: If any of you are planning to buy this system or have a system like this that is in the direct path of air flow
: in the front of the car where you can see the filters like
: this. (Meaning having no splash shield)
DO NOT DRIVE THESE CARS IN HEAVY RAIN!!!
I have seen this on many customers cars lately. This is very dangerous!!!!
Someone on the net is even selling homemade kits with scoops on the front directing air in. This is fine for the track, But not for cars that need to be driven in the rain.
I have had 2 customers come in with hydrolocked motors from this very thing! One of them had a hole in the side of block
: with a connecting rod hanging out!
They had no idea that this was going to happen to them. Both of them had friends help them install the filters and they disregarded the splash shields.
I figuered I should say something for those unaware.
If you have a pop charger on your daily driver please look
: to make sure that you have a splash shield in place. Even
: light rain can ruin a air flow meter.
